ANA IMEP: Over 35 years of international presence on the global market

IMEP, a state owned company at that time, was established in 1967 as a factory specializing in the manufacture of electrical motors for household appliances and industrial use. In the beginning, the factory produced universal motors as well as speed single-phase induction motors. After a few months, the factory extended its production to the manufacture of speed three-phased induction motors based on an updated technological and production licence acquired from CEM-France (now ABB). In the years that followed, new types of motors were implemented, chiefly for electric household appliances and automotive industries. Since 1975, the company has exported vertain types of electrical motors in the Western Europe. During the ’90s, the company’s steady growth positioned it as a market leader becoming the most important Romanian electrical motors manufacturer.

“We have worked hard, focused on domestic investments, mainly to achieve peak technologies and to update mechanical systems thereby steadily enhancing the international competitiveness of our products”, says Gheorghe Badescu, the company’s general manager.
At present, ANA IMEP exports 97 per cent of its output, which consists mainly in motors for washing machines, capacitors for dryers and cooker hoods. The main market for ANA IMEP’s products are certain EU member states while its business partners include brands such as Indesit, Fagor, Vestel, Franke, Valeo and Behr. As a consequence of its applied development strategy, ANA IMEP ranks today among the first four actors involved in electrical motors manufacturing on the European market. Extension of its presence to new markets figures high on the agenda of the Pitesti-based company.
